"Best post-Jazz Age stories" might be a better title for this collection of four stories that date from 1930 and later. Among the author's best, they all probe in some fashion the fear of the hero of "The Bridal Party"--"that now he would never be happy." The others are "Babylon Revisited" (1931), "The Lost Decade" (1939), and "Three Hours Between Planes" (1941), the lightest story in the collection. Alexander Scourby reads straightforwardly but superbly. His work is unlike the dramatic performances of the nine narrators of the Caedmon collection of Fitzgerald stories, but Scourby's clear, warm readings make a fine companion to his unabridged reading of THE GREAT GATSBY.
