Given two main characters who are polar opposites, narrator Tony Call switches from one to the other with aplomb. At one moment he gives voice to homebody, low-key Bear, and the next he is Bear's neighbor, impulsive, in-your-face Duck. Call switches from leisurely, deep, and gravelly to high-pitched, speedy, and staccato on the turn of a dime. The juxtaposition of the two voices underscores the problem at hand: Duck is eager to take Bear on a morning stroll in spite of Bear's desire to "have quiet time by myself." Who will win out? Young listeners will enjoy the point and counterpoint between the two friends. A.R. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2016]
