Canadian writer Jane Christmas narrates her own story of embarking upon the Camino de Santiago at the age of 50. This famous pilgrimage requires hikers to traverse long distances to reach the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. The trouble is, she sets off accompanied by 14 other middle-aged women, all of whom have their own ideas about what the Camino means to them and how to tackle its challenges. Christmas palpably describes her frustration with the group and with the rigors of the Camino. Though some of her descriptions may be intended to be humorous, in her voicing they end up sounding critical instead. Her narration also suffers from her mispronunciation of Spanish names and places.
