Lauren and Sarah were best friends in college. Now in their 30s, Lauren works in publishing while Sarah, the socialite, is planning her wedding. Julie McKay's narration ebbs and flows with the novel's short sentences, fragments, and phrases. McKay gives emotion to the descriptions of reunions and wedding planning in New York City and Connecticut, working hard to make this drifting story move forward. Many scenes having to do with romance and relationships are full of lists that pull the listener's attention away from the meager plot. Minimal accents interspersed with shifts in volume are the audible clues for the shifting speakers. This tongue-in-cheek romance is full of shallow characters, repetitive conversations, and angst-filled wedding plans. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2016]
