Kimberly Farr, with periodic help from two additional narrators, makes it easy to absorb this sweeping parenting lesson. She has a secure grasp of the broad concepts and, without sounding too formal, provides a serious reading that helps listeners connect with the more intellectual aspects of the book. The idea is that children develop a better capacity to regulate themselves when they're treated with love and respect, rather than manipulated with behavioral strategies or dominated by authoritarian approaches. Besides offering advice and exercises, the authors remind us that good parenting is always a careful blend of firm direction, good modeling, and empathy for what motivates children when they get off track. These easy-to-hear ideas make this audio a valuable parenting resource, especially for new parents. T.W. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2017]
