Her fate seems grim until Rory MacKenzie, brother of a Highland chieftain, arrives to claim her as his wife. It seems Sybil's brothers gambled her away before fleeing. Fearing the Queen's wrath for her brothers' crimes, Sybil escapes with Rory, while never truly planning to honor the marriage contract. Many real historical figures are woven into the story, and the narration immerses one in the Scottish culture for a satisfying audiobook experience.
