Marlee Stafford, a wealthy commoner with an undeserved tarnished reputation, weds by proxy a man she is told is the dissolute but noble rake Richard Arden. When she discovers all is not as it appears, Marlee must risk everything to find and keep true love. Not even Tanya Hyde's ability to deftly delivery all types of British accents can transform this predictable pirate tale into an enjoyable listen. Lacking interesting or clever dialogue, the trite twists and turns of the story are more irritating than entertaining. Still, Hyde does a credible job giving Marlee an appropriately soft young voice and the villain, a convincing Spanish accent. A.C.P. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2017]
