Quill Beauchamp is furious when Ivy Wareham and three other bluestockings are bequeathed the estate of his late aunt to pursue their studies in her private library. Narrator Beverly Crick brings out the characters with flair, delineating their personalities, classes, and ages with her vocal range. She interprets Ivy with a cultured English accent, adding bit of sass when she deals with those who question her intelligence. Crick smoothly takes Regency hero Quill from cold aristocrat to man of action and character. She brings the listener along to the estate and nearby village, transitioning easily to each setting as Ivy and Quill try to solve his aunt's murder while unsuccessfully fighting their attraction.
