Narrator William DeMeritt delivers everything one needs in this sci-fi gumshoe novella. Detectives Davis and Chaz have been sent into a snapshot--a time bubble that recaptures a short period within a given geographic location. Their mission is to solve two cases. Instead, they choose to investigate a cover-up that Davis stumbles upon. DeMeritt's deep and slightly raspy voice, which can sound like a growl, aligns well with protagonist Davis, who holds things close to his vest. Sanderson's skillful story is made all the more compelling by DeMeritt's deliberate narration. Though the plot proves to be an open-and-shut case, Sanderson creates a world that demands further exploration, especially if DeMeritt comes along for the narration.
