In this memoir, Viloria, a Latina intersexual lesbian, recounts the challenges she's faced for two decades as an intersexual person and an advocate for intersexual rights. While her prose engages the listener as she reflects on how her personal life is inevitably political, her narration might have been better handled by someone else. For too much of the audiobook, her tone sounds hollow, a weakness that isn't helped by her staccato intonation. Still, as she traces her journey to understand herself and her body, her voice elicits the emotions necessary in the tender and painful moments, and she does well with characters' voices. Overall, Viloria provides a powerful look at self-discovery and transformation. L.E. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2017]
