Narrator Frankie Corzo delivers Griest's investigation of her own past as a Tejano, a Mexican-American living in Texas, and the ways her background has impacted her life. In doing so, Griest discovers that her people's history and experiences resonate with those of others in the U.S., in particular the Mohawks of the Akwesasne Nation in New York, who must straddle an imaginary border to maintain family, tradition, and livelihood.
