There's nothing like a novel that can make the reader squirm. ALL IS VANITY is a beautifully performed audiobook that keeps the listener on edge in a number of ways. Blair Brown manages to change her voice entirely when she shifts from one point of view to another; her renditions truly reflect the personalities of the story's two narrators. Listeners may not like Letty's haplessness or Margaret's arrogance, but they'll surely care about what happens to them as Letty plunges into financial ruin and Margaret rushes to put her friend's self-destruction down on paper as her first novel. Thoughts about materialism and ego and friendship come to mind as unpredictable shifts take place. One can listen to this novel for a great story but remember it for its quietly profound statements about modern life. L.B.F.
