Narrator Jill Frutkin voices Mischa Love in this moving story about a 12-year-old who dreams of joining the Mars Now project and becoming the first girl to live on the distant planet. Most of the story is told in the first person using the present tense, with Frutkin's narrative tone and rhythm actively changing with each turn in the plot. From Mischa's brave first day at a new school to the announcement of her cancer diagnosis, Frutkin gracefully brings listeners in and out of her thoughts. Though Mischa's parents, sisters, and new friend, Gavriel, have only a few lines of dialogue, Frutkin barely changes her delivery when presenting these characters, a slight disappointment in an otherwise thought-provoking audiobook.
