Elaine Orabona Foster wasn't ready for a religious pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago, the Way of St. James, with her husband Joseph. Narrators Pamela Almand and Scott Thomas create a pleasant back-and-forth as the authors tell about bits of the journey from their own perspectives. Almand reflects Elaine's frequent anxiety, and Thomas gives Joseph a more laid-back delivery. They comment on each other with loving and occasionally cranky tones. The story is sometimes amusing, as when Almand delivers the conversation Elaine addresses to her meal, its eye staring at her. The exchanges show the growing bond the couple shared through Elaine's fears of a family crisis at home and her pain from the arduous hiking.
