Before the 2016 election, the author immersed herself in the lives of conservative rural citizens in Wisconsin to understand their disposition towards government and certain aspects of American culture. Coleen Marlo provides a clear and direct voice that rightly emphasizes Cramer's key points but can also vocally pivot to capture the charm and sincerity in the banter that she exchanges with her subjects. Marlo also manages to provide distinct and varied voices for the different people interviewed throughout while keeping a consistent voice for Kramer. There's a light rasp to Marlo's voice that adds a personal element to her narration--as if the prose she's reading is being told in strict confidence.
