AIRMAN MORTENSEN

by | Read by Michael Blake

Fiction • 5 hrs. 40 min • Unabridged • ©

Awaiting court-martial for disobeying an order, Airman Mortensen has been assigned permanent latrine duty. Sound effects of jets taking flight provide an ironic counterpoint to his predicament. Only his heart takes flight as he finds himself falling in love with the base commander's daughter. The author's youthful voice captures both the airman's romantic innocence and his restless chafing against meaningless Air Force regulations. However, the slightly juvenile tone may deter some listeners. Vocal characterizations are effective and interesting; even female roles are handled well. Narration is clear, expressive and well-paced throughout. Michael Blake is also the author of Dances with Wolves. D.L. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 92]
