Narrator Gene Blake deftly brings to life even the shortest story in this clever collection. Kids will recognize their everyday fears while adults will recall their own frights from long ago. The title story finds Felipe hiding his bad report card in his closet, only to have a wily-sounding skeleton teach him that there are horrors worse than bad grades. "Whispers in the Walls" offers creepy voices repeating a warning about using too much technology to Daniel, who sounds like a genuine kid. In "Clowning Around," Blake chillingly re-creates the sound of squeaky, oversized clown shoes as Joseph is being followed by a threatening carnival clown.
