Narrator Kate Reading voices an extraordinary group of women in this wonderful romp, which takes its inspiration from the best of Victorian gothic and science fiction. Bravo to Reading for keeping the women’s voices understated and resisting caricatures. The daughters of Jekyll, Hyde, and Rappaccini come together in London, with the creations of Dr. Moreau and Frankenstein, as well as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, to solve murders in the style of Jack the Ripper. The narrative is interspersed with warm interjections and gentle bickering from the women as they collaborate to tell their story, giving Reading much to work with. Though the story is a little too long, it’s lively and exciting. One hopes this is the start of a series. C.A.T. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2017]
