This collection of 10 academic essays by the well-known historian looks at a number of incidents and people associated with the Federal Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. Among the essays is an evaluation of its founder, Major-General George B. McClellan, the court-martial of Major-General Fitz-John Porter, and a very fascinating reevaluation of the career of Major-General Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker. These are arranged in chronological order and do much to give the listener a good idea of the character and inner workings of this organization. Nelson Runger's reading is flawless. One quickly becomes comfortable with his baritone voice; his pacing and inflection are even, measured and pleasing to hear. The only lapse is the lack of any maps or illustrations.
