Narrator Katherine Kellgren faultlessly captures each character and nuance in this delightful story, set in 1930s England and beyond. Lady Georgiana "Georgie" Rannoch, 35th in line to the throne, is impoverished but classy, sometimes insecure but always resourceful. Listeners will enjoy accompanying Lady Georgie when she joins a house party at Queen Mary's request to make sure the Prince of Wales isn't about to marry Wallis Simpson. Both the prince and his intended sound aloof and cold as they talk with other Nazi sympathizers whom Kellgren gives genuine-sounding German and Italian accents. It's particularly moving to hear Lady Georgie be a loyal friend to Belinda, who's single and pregnant. Most hilarious--and unforgettable--is the scene of Lady Georgie and her fiancé doing their best to deliver Belinda's baby. S.G.B.
