Sean Runnette narrates this humorous amateur detective mystery with the perfect tone of smooth sarcasm. Steward "Hoagy" Hoag, who earns his living as a celebrity ghostwriter, and his irresistible fish- eating basset hound, Lulu, are drawn into the intrigues of his ex-girlfriend's dysfunctional family. With Lulu's help, Hoagy solves a bunch of murders and the mystery at the heart of the plot. Runnette flawlessly portrays Hoagy but is less successful performing the female characters. While there is a twenty-year gap between the previous publications in this series and this installment, listeners will easily pick up on the backstories. Let's hope we don't have to wait another 20 years for the next book. E.Q. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2018]
