Elisabeth Rodgers returns to narrate the second book in Koontz's Jane Hawk series. Her tough, tense performance is essential to this audiobook's impact. Hawk is an FBI agent whose background gives her insight into the suicide of a teacher who died after committing mass murder. What seems like an inexplicable action is revealed to be a large-scale deployment of deadly technology. A road trip to unmask the conspiracy ensues, with Hawk encountering characters who may be threats, or who need help themselves. Fans of Koontz's last audiobook in the series should find this a worthy follow-up. Listeners who meet Hawk here won't be lost, however. Rodgers's performance is a perfect match for Hawk and keeps the listener involved. S.P.C. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2017]
