Narrator Fred Berman portrays a tough cop in this first-person thriller. As Berman maintains a good pace, his performance of the character's strong will and wry sense of humor is excellent and believable. Doug Brock is a New Jersey policeman who is recovering from an on-the-job gunshot wound that has resulted in a form of amnesia. With an unreliable memory, he learns new and forgotten social skills to navigate relationships and his job. Friends tell him he's different, but he can't remember what he was like before the injury. The entire police force is on edge as murders take place that are linked to Doug's past. Berman's narration is a good match with the story, hitting the humor with well-placed timing to break up the building tension. L.M.A. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2018]
