CREATING A NEW SENSE OF HOME

Somé, a spokesman for the elders of the Dagara tribe of Burkina Faso, West Africa, speaks here about the “tribal community of the heart.” In this live recording of a workshop for a men’s group, Somé emphasizes the importance of home, community, initiation and ritual to the reclamation of individual and collective purpose. Discovery of purpose is the thread running throughout his talk. Although the format is a “men’s workshop,” Somé eloquently addresses issues equally relevant to both sexes. He applies indigenous values to the contemporary challenges we all face. The technical difficulties of a live workshop format--wind chimes sounding, doors closing--are small compared to the power of Somé’s compelling and soulful message.
