Phillipa Maakestad is a middle-aged professor in a marriage past its prime whose mentally unstable 25-year-old daughter is about to be married. Hillary Huber gives voice to Phillipa as she tears her life apart and then tries to reassemble it. Huber embodies Phillipa in this stream-of-consciousness reflection of a life at a crossroads. Her tone is appropriately whiny as she avoids responsibility for the mess she's made and snarky as she recounts the 2004 Presidential campaign, which places her story in time. Although there are humor and spot-on reflection on the academic life and the political climate of the time, even Huber is unable to give these one-dimensional characters any heart.
