In this romantic comedy, Violet Strong adds just enough Texas twang to her narration to make the listener feel at home in Granite, Texas. Jessa Gibson owns a food truck, and it's interesting to get a peek at how that business works. Max Hager spends most of the audiobook purposefully deceiving the heroine, which may turn off some listeners. Though it's all for the purpose of creating romantic conflict, that much deception may be a deal breaker for some. While Strong adroitly voices the bubbly Jess and the more reserved Max, her narration often has a singsong tonality that works better for the dialogue scenes than the love scenes. Overall, though, this is an entertaining listen with more than a few laughs. L.C.L. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2018]
