Narrator Charlotte North's youthful timbre, hopeful tone, and British accent perfectly capture sheltered Elspeth's personality in this new Argeneau romance novel. She also draws out plenty of tension, romantic and otherwise. Less than a year after moving away, Elspeth is not thrilled with a surprise family visit. North's narration shines in the emotionally fraught conversations between Elspeth, her twin sisters, and their ancient, controlling vampire mother. Elspeth, who is struggling to escape several dangerous attempts on her life, must now face physical and mental manipulation by her own mother. Happily, her strong emotional connection with love interest Wyatt helps her persevere and carve out a life of her own.
