MURDER TAKES THE HIGH ROAD

Narrator Gary Furlong portrays an American in Scotland in Lanyon's romantic suspense. Librarian Carter Matheson participates in Dame Vanessa Rayburn's author tour of the Highlands even though his ex, Trevor, and Trevor's new boyfriend, Vance, are unpleasant distractions. Carter revels in the journey's intersection of research and mystery while eyeing several candidates for Trevor's replacement. Furlong appropriately employs an American accent for most of the story, which is told through Carter's observations. A motley cast of characters turned suspects remain distinct through American, British, and Scottish accents. Furlong voices a modern story that nods respectfully at Scotland's complex history and legendary tourist appeal. Carter comes across as persistent but modest and caring.
