Written as a series of letters by a rural Presbyterian pastor to his beloved congregation, this audiobook, narrated by Trevor Thompson, does a wonderful job of dramatizing the concept of pastoral care in a rural setting. When a letter calls for anger, the listener will feel the anger. When a letter calls for sadness or regret or the occasional joyous note, the listener will join in those emotions as well. The emotional roller coaster of a pastor's life becomes clear as named congregation members become more than characters in a book. Thompson's ability to deliver pastoral conversations as if he were actually both parties, the pastor and his parishioner, is second to none. This work is a phenomenal listening experience, one that rural pastors will especially enjoy even if they have theological disagreements with the author.
