Narrator Kate Tyler gives each of three short mystery stories appropriate distinction. In "Live Free or Die," a womanizing efficiency expert is hired by an insurance company. Tyler's conversational style is ideal as two women deceived by him hatch a shrewd plan for revenge. "Murder in the Marsh" finds Carrie-Anne Camack training for a triathlon in a rural area. Vivid descriptions of the region and farmers who feel betrayed by a local bank are deftly presented. When a body turns up, Camack and listeners find themselves amid the action, which leads to a dubious conclusion. In the cleverly titled "Cycopaths," a group of cutthroat women is preparing for a triathlon. Tyler treats listeners like insiders after a woman drowns. Was it an accident--or murder? Although brief, each story is well realized and engrossing. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2018]
