COLUMBUS DAY Expeditionary Force, Book 1

by | Read by R.C. Bray

Science Fiction • 16.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2016

Narrating military science fiction requires a muscular performance, a good range of energy for the action scenes and technical descriptions, a connection with the story's moments of humor, and a broad catalogue of voicings to represent the diverse cast of military, civilian, and alien characters. R.C. Bray delivers. He's terrific in the role of Joe Bishop, an affable soldier who is thrust into leadership as humans get swept up in an ancient galactic war. Bray quietly sustains Bishop's Downeast accent throughout the story, easily shifting into other characters and giving most of them depth beyond what the text suggests. He keeps the technical passages moving briskly. Listeners will be eager to spend more time with Bishop and his crew.
