Narrator Jack de Golia's style is ideally suited for this zany story about James Gaffney, a "child killer" who, in reality, rescues kids. De Golia's rendering of Gaffney's quirky personality, which abounds with sarcasm and self-deprecating humor, will have listeners laughing out loud. In addition, Gaffney's put-downs for those who have it coming are surprisingly satisfying. When his reliable assistant, Marisa, whom he rescued as a child, is kidnapped by Harry, another person he rescued, de Golia shines as the two sparring adversaries outdo each other. As more people join the search, the action escalates, with junk food descriptions providing comic relief. Most endearing is hearing Gaffney realize how valuable Marisa is to his business and his plans to reward her. The conclusion is a cliff-hanger!
