Rebecca Lowman leads an all-star cast of narrators in a playful, thought-provoking audiobook that uses its near-future setting to ask big questions about the nature of happiness. Lowman reads chapters from the point of view of Pearl, a middle-aged "happiness technician" at a company that uses cutting-edge technology to increase users' contentment. Lowman's wry but tender narration captures Pearl's steady nature and her devotion to those around her, including her anorexic son, Rhett. Each narrator is perfectly matched to the character being voiced. Arthur Morey's winsome, devil-may-care interpretation of Pearl's charming but unreliable ex-husband is especially memorable. This audiobook is an excellent example of a full-cast recording done right. E.C. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2018]
