Whether the author is at home in the U.S., speaking with other Americans, or overseas, speaking with native Azoreans, Mozo's performance breathes life into the real-life people in this audiobook. Though Marcum speaks little Portuguese, Mozo's lilting inflections add authenticity to the few words scattered throughout. Some slow narrative pacing isn't enough to keep listeners from wanting to pack their bags and board an airplane to this remote Atlantic archipelago of volcanic islands. Marcum's words and Mozo's performance are a lovely combination, which is sure to help listeners escape to a more tranquil place--at least in their minds.
