With a rich Scottish accent, Davina Porter draws listeners into this subtle mystery set in contemporary Edinburgh. The story centers on philosopher Isabel Dalhousie as she sets out to solve some of her own problems as well as those of other people. Her actions are liberally interspersed with philosophical debate and rationale. Porter's warm, well-paced narration is spot-on for keeping the plot moving forward. She manages to keep the listener on track even during Isabel's lengthy musings, which are often unrelated to the plot. Porter's authentic-sounding narration brings the wide range of quirky characters to life, creating a feeling of being among old friends. The result is a listen that is rich in charm, philosophy, and dry humor. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2018]
