Tim Gerard Reynolds's gripping narration ramps up the intensity of this action-packed thriller in which nothing is as it seems. Seventeen-year-old Peter Blankman lives a fraught existence, retreating to the predictable world of mathematics to keep his crippling anxiety at bay. He barely copes with everyday problems, so when his mother, a brilliant neuroscientist, is brutally attacked, and his twin sister, Bel, is implicated, Peter's world falls apart. Reynolds communicates Peter's panic-stricken state of mind as he is disoriented by the maelstrom around him and no longer knows whom to trust. While Reynolds's voice is slightly too mature, the force and momentum he brings to the story are palpable.
