Narrator Joan Allen portrays a grief-stricken 13-year-old in a low voice tinged with the right mixture of sadness and angst. Briana already feels pushed aside by her younger brother and his special needs when her father suddenly dies. Now her mother locks herself in her room, and Briana feels doubly abandoned, and saddled with even more responsibility. Gifted with a fertile imagination, Briana believes her father's heart has found a new home in her body and that, through it, he speaks to her. Allen uses subtle intonations to differentiate the teens who tease, befriend, and crush on Briana, making their ages and emotions sound realistic. A discussion among the author, editor, audiobook producer, and narrator at the end reveals this work to be a labor of much love. S.T.C. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2018]
