A jazzy tune introduces this audiobook based on the dramatic real life of Lee Miller, an American model who moved to Paris and became the muse and partner of artist Man Ray and then a famous WWII photographer and then a famous chef. Yes, it sounds unbelievable, but it’s all true. Therese Plummer narrates the story with vocal fry at the end of her sentences, which, if you like it, seems perfect for the intense, dreamy tale of a woman who conquered and was conquered by life. While it can occasionally be difficult to differentiate characters in conversation, Plummer excels at shading Miller’s emotional arc from naïve enthusiast to wounded tigress.
