Narrator January LaVoy demonstrates her masterful talents in portraying a confident female judge, her sullen teenage son, the criminals who pursue her, and many additional supporting characters. LaVoy is so effective at character differentiation that listeners may think there two narrators--male and female. The plot revolves around Juliana Brody, a well-regarded, righteous judge who allows herself one hook-up, and it results in putting her personal and professional life in jeopardy. There are twists and turns, some predictable and some surprising. While listeners may find themselves questioning why a supposedly smart woman does so many stupid things, LaVoy's well-paced narration keeps the story moving at a gripping pace.
