Alana Kerr Collins and Gary Furlong narrate a story of star-crossed young lovers who meet during "The Troubles." Irish-born American teen Fiona returns to Belfast, a place she hasn't been since she was a toddler. A chance meeting with Danny develops into friendship and then love. Having been raised in Wisconsin, Fiona doesn't comprehend the history and continuing violent conflict between Catholics and Protestants until it comes to her front door. The dual points of view in the story lend themselves to two narrators. Furlong's frequently deadpan delivery fits the stress and abuse that is Danny's life. Collins's voice for Fiona sounds mature for a 16-year-old. While she performs the Irish characters spectacularly, her American accent is a little off, especially when coupled with a few non-American pronunciations. Regardless, this story is well worth the listen. A.L.S.M. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2019]
