Narrator Jorjeana Marie's delicate voice and whimsical tone fit right in with the quirky, frantic, and messy Blatchley sisters. Along with their mother, the teens are scrambling to hold onto to their beloved Victorian home. Marie's performance is especially admirable because the animated Blatchley sisters couldn't be more different. For little sister Plum, Marie utilizes an inquisitive and slightly sardonic tone as the witty, bookish loner takes a job tutoring a classmate who isn't as insufferable as she had first thought. Conversely, Marie gives a higher pitch and quicker pace to older sister Ginny, whose anxieties make her senior year difficult for the whole family. Marie has excellent pacing and smoothly delivers Thornburgh's swift turns of phrase and dialogue, which are a pastiche of Austen-era literature.
