Amber Benson offers a solid narration of this audiobook--a blend of archaeology, action, and horror. Ben Walker works for the National Science Foundation, investigating the world's strangest phenomena for their potential for weaponization by the U.S. Walker is summoned to an archaeological dig, where Sophie Durand and her team appear to have found Pandora's box. When a terrorist attack traps the group underground, the legendary artifact presents its own terrifying threat. Benson uses a range of accents and sympathetic tones to effectively depict the characters and their relationships. However, her voice remains distractingly calm as the tension and horror should be rising. Benson's performance is still enjoyable throughout, even if it doesn't fully convey the intended thrills and chills. A.T.N. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2019]
