Kyla Garcia pulls no emotional punches in her narration as she speaks straightforwardly on the environmental violations experienced by indigenous people in the U.S. With a steady and matter-of-fact delivery, she lets the author do the heavy lifting of inciting the listener's sense of injustice. The author dissects how Western governments have in the past and continue in the present to disregard indigenous people's connection to nature. Examples include the forced removal by governments that repeatedly polluted their lands or placed them away from the flora and fauna needed for cultural traditions. Even the environmental movement is part of the story in that governments worked to preserve lands and spaces traditionally used by indigenous tribes. This clash between environmentalism and indigenous people is still playing out today. L.E. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2019]
