Graham Halstead skillfully narrates this audiobook full of quirky characters and wacky scenes reminiscent of Roald Dahl. Walter Mortinson is a 12-year old inventor who is struggling within the confines of the bland factory town of Moormouth. He and his friend, Cordelia, decide to run away, and the two embark on a wild road trip to find Walter's hero, the famed inventor Flasterborn, who was also the mentor of Walter's late father. Halstead's portrayals match the personalities of each character. The nonconformist dreamer Walter's voice is gentle and rambling, while the waif-like Cordelia's voice is thin and soft. Halstead gives the omniscient narrator a dry tone that highlights the humor of the many eccentric characters who pepper the story. S.C. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2019]
