Narrator Jane McDowell returns to perform the 11th audiobook in the Ruth Galloway series. McDowell effectively differentiates its many characters, male and female, with diverse accents and a varied tone and pace. Her engaging voice charms listeners as the crime-solving archaeologist investigates bones found at a stone circle dig site. The plot also draws Galloway into solving the mystery of threatening letters sent to her former lover, DCI Nelson, who is the father of her daughter. For those new to the series, the large number of characters and the complicated relationships that harken back to earlier cases may be challenging to follow. Fans of the series, however, will enjoy both the interwoven plotlines from earlier audiobooks and the evolving complications in relationships.
