Kate Hosking and Stig Wemyss team up to narrate this fast-moving sci-fi tale of two step-siblings. Each narrator fits nicely into his or her role of sister Dawn or brother Rory. The banter is quite natural, and the listener is treated to nonstop action amid the background of Dawn coping with her mother's death and Rory coping with the pain of an inattentive father. When Rory's father sends him an apple-headed doll infested with slug-like creatures, something weird begins to happen. The "slobberers," the children discover, are growing, multiplying, and sucking the life out of any beast they find. Then they take aim at Dawn and Rory. This is only Part One of a promising series.
