BATTERING RAMS

This second installment in the Wicked! series begins and ends in the middle of an exciting story. Kate Hosking portrays Dawn, and Stig Wemyss portrays Dawn's stepbrother, Rory, in alternating parallel chapters. Goofy music at the beginning of the production makes the story sound more humorous than it turns out to be, but additional sound effects--a man blowing a raspberry, a car speeding away, and a sheep bleating--help support the surreal action as Dawn and Rory independently try to figure out what has turned their world upside down. Hosking and Wemyss add a tone of suspense and urgency with their spirited readings. This production from down under will satisfy those who like fantasy with a dash of the macabre. A.F.
