Narrator Todd McLaren's deep voice makes the listener envision a tough cowboy. Wanting to escape from money-hunting women, wealthy cattle rancher Cort Grier visits his cousin's ranch in Wyoming to work as a simple cowboy. Mina Michaels lives next door. McLaren voices Mina with a wispy quality that fits with her background; she grew up being abused by her mother and her mother's boyfriends. But Mina is also a novelist who has gone on missions with mercenaries for research, so listeners might expect a stronger tone from her. Sparks fly between Mina and Cort. The one detraction from the listening experience is McLaren's slow pace. While appropriate in some spots, it drags the story down in others.
