This audiobook demonstrates how an effective narrator like Christopher Ryan Grant balances pace and tone to transform a formulaic story into one worth listening to. When newly minted attorney David Adams, who sports stellar credentials, joins Austin's most prestigious law firm, he believes that his career is set. But when Adams quickly discovers that the firm has ominous secrets, he begins a stealth investigation that takes him into the city's homeless population. Grant uses a staccato style to complement author Chad Zunker's taut dialogue and focus the listener. Sadly, though, once Adams uncovers the firm's secrets and how they relate to the homeless, the audiobook quickly ties up every loose end in a pat and almost too perfect manner.
