Jason Culp does a fine job narrating this exploration of Thomas Jefferson's experiences with education. From his own early education to his project to create the University of Virginia, Jefferson thought about who would become the next generation of leaders and what kind of people they would be. Culp doesn't try much characterization of the many voices who appear other than the president's. He does, however, give them subtle accents appropriate to their origins, so we can always tell when quotations begin and end. And he keeps the story moving, even when the text loops back to a topic that has already been covered. This is a side of Jefferson that even those knowledgeable about his life may have forgotten.
